Colourful little leaf beads coming together in earrings! So many pretty colours in these earrings. Hmm, they might even end up as my new favourite earrings.

Glass Frit Leaf Beads

Glass Leaf beads

I have lots of different frit collections (smashed up bits of glass) in a range of colours. So for this exhibition I took spoonfuls from all of the collections, and made a special mix! Then I made these super cute leaf beads.

Exhibition at T’Arts Collective

Julie Frahm Glass Jewellery

My artist friend and I have had a lot of fun coming up with the creative challenges for our exhibition at @tartscollective. She has sent her work off to be framed! And I am still making beads and jewellery! It’s funny how ideas spark ideas, and it’s hard to know when to stop! I can’t wait to share some of our work with you.

Another bead collection is growing

Another collection of beads is starting to form! I never really know how many beads I am going to need to make for an exhibition, so I usually end up making lots! I still have some more beads to make for this mix…and then I will start making jewellery! Can’t wait.

Exhibition at T’Arts Collective

I am really looking forward to exhibiting with a favourite artist friend of mine at @tartscollective in June! We have set ourselves several creative challenges, and I am making beads like crazy to try and get ready for it. Responding to Kandinsky’s concentric circles in squares is our first challenge, and you may have seen the video collection of beads I have made yesterday? I can’t wait to see our work together! Anyway, I shall introduce you to this person soon, when it gets a bit closer to opening. In the meantime, this is a photo of us when we met up in person a few weeks ago!

Introducing myself!

Julie Frahm

Hello! This is me in my fancy didymium glasses that I use when I am making glass beads! The filter lets me see the bead through the flame, it would be nearly impossible to make beads without them. I have been making beads for a really long time. I think it was 2001 when I did my first glass bead making class, and it literally changed my life! In 2009 I started making beads from recycled glass. My life changed that year by having a baby, and it shifted the focus of my making too. I still love making beads with Italian glass too because of all the gorgeous colours. Honestly, I can’t ever see myself not making beads or jewellery. I have been making jewellery for over 30 years now, and every day it still brings me a lot of happiness. There’s always something new to try, a new colour combination, a new tool, a new idea. Here’s to the next 30 years!

Making glass beads

Did you know? I have to wear special safety glasses when making glass beads. Didymium glasses have a filter that lets me see through all of the orange flame and just focus on the bead that I am making.
