Day 60. Well I guess this is what happens when I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about earrings…I take apart old necklaces and use the beads in slightly, hopefully new ways to get me through this little busy spell. Here’s to spending a bit more time dreaming of earrings soon.
Day 58. Some days I struggle to find the time to make a pair of earrings! Like today, there are lots of other things I need to do. So this morning when I sat down to make this pair I just kept telling myself to keep it simple, take an existing idea and tweak it, just a little, you never know. And today I am so glad I did, because these earrings could actually end up being 4 pairs of earrings! Pair 1 is pictured. Pair 2 is the birds on their own. Pair 3 is the flowers on their own. And Pair 4 would be the simple hoop on its own. Love making things every day!
Day 57. Thanks for indulging me in my little triangle shaped earring adventure! I was curious to see a range of bead shapes in this style of earring. I like that all of the beads worked well, some maybe more dramatic than others, some just classic, like this pair! The beads in this pair of earrings were made from a Banrock Station wine bottle.
Day 55. I have had this idea for a pair of earrings floating in my head for a while and today I finally told myself to just make them and stop wondering what they would actually look like! I have sometimes found designs can look excellent in my head, but when it comes time to making them I have been stuck on some element of the design and not finished it because I didn’t have the skills or confidence to work it out! Today I had a fairly good idea of how to make these, but it was still quite the process to get them made. Now they are made, I can see a real potential for this shape. PS happy birthday to my beautiful Ciara who turns 11 today!!
Day 54. Two more old birds that are absolutely thrilled to be flying out of their plastic bag! Thanks for all the beautiful comments yesterday, it really made my day. I had to dig a little deeper to find these birds, and then to do something a bit different with them, but I am actually glad I did. These earrings make me smile!
Day 53. This is what happens when you take some incredibly old beads and make new earrings with them! I used to love making these bird and flower beads, putting all sorts of colour combinations together, and seeing what happened when the beads came out the kiln! I haven’t made beads like this for years, I wonder if I should have another session of colourful flower making? It’s tempting.
Day 51. These earrings made from a Banrock Station wine bottle highlight some of the different finishes that I can use. The bead on top I have left shiny, the middle bead has been acid-etched to take the shine off, and the bottom bead has been coated with silver pixie dust while the bead is still hot.
