Behind the scenes Saturday. My studio is a light-filled room in my house where I can make beads on one side and then make jewellery on the other side. I don’t need a huge space for either of these activities, but I do need a space!

I had such high expectations for this perfume bottle, I am an eternal optimist I guess! I should have known, as soon as I started warming it up, that it wasn’t going to work out, but I kept going and in the end…it just turned out to be clear glass after all. Oh well it was still worth a shot.

Definitely did not wake up thinking that this was going to be the bracelet I made today. Funny what happens when you sit down to make something new and you don’t have a lot of time! All handmade recycled glass beads and sterling silver spacers, this bracelet is simple and sweet.

Today I was asked if I did a range of simple pendants with my recycled glass beads. So today I came home and made one! I have to say I love the chain that I have used for this necklace. It sits so beautifully. This bead was made from a Hendricks Gin bottle.

Today’s earrings would actually look rather fine with yesterday’s long necklace. Beads made from a Banrock Station wine bottle with enamelled copper tubes.

Inspired by Monday. Today as I wandered through various social media feeds I was reminded that on Friday it is International Women’s Day. I feel so lucky to have been brought up believing a woman can do anything. I can go to a concert by myself, travel the world on my own, choose any career that I want, follow my dreams. Now that I have a daughter of my own I am thoughtful about how I talk to her. I want her to grow up believing she can do anything! If she wants to play footy now…she can! I couldn’t do that when I was a kid. I love seeing the barriers between men and women changing. I love that girls have opportunities that weren’t there 20 years ago. And I wonder what opportunities her daughter will have (well, that is if she decides to have children)! All of the beads in this necklace are made from various recycled glass sources!

I like the little speckly green wine bottle beads mixed in with the beads made from a champagne bottle. You could wear this bracelet with the champagne bottle earrings or with earrings made with speckly green wine bottle beads (see last Sunday, day 55).

Yes, my jewellery making space is always a mess! I kind of like having beads and other bits and pieces all over the desk, it can sometimes be the starting point for a new piece! The pliers are years old and very well used.

I have been working with recycled glass for around 10 years now and I have to admit that I am never bored with it. I love experimenting and trying out new glass and techniques. I am given many different types of glass and bottles and this year I am making time to try new things. I like how these studs turned out, made from a brandy bottle!
