Do you remember the flood that swept through South Australia about 18 months ago? My friend’s house was basically ruined when the water level rose so high and stayed in his house for long enough to make it not worth fixing. He accepted the government’s offer to demolish his house, thinking he would simply build a new house there. Turns out that was not a simple thing to do! 18 months later and there’s no new house being built there. All that is left are memories and some broken glass that didn’t get picked up in the demolition. I took a few pieces when I visited earlier this year and have turned them into beads that I have used to make plant stakes for a housewarming gift for him. He was finally able to buy a house somewhere else, and he will still have his memories of his old house. And hopefully these plant stakes add to his memories.
