I have had a lot of fun playing with colour, but this week I decided to take it down a notch, and use colours that were next to each other on the colour wheel. I really like how these turned out!

This year we decided that we would go to the Murray Bridge Show. Last year we were a bit too busy looking for houses, but this year, because our house is very close to the showgrounds, we thought we would venture over and check it out.
I was excited to see how my entries had done in the show, and was so pleased to see they had come 1st, 2nd and 3rd!
We had fun looking at our kid’s art work in the show. Finn had made a nest picture for the Learning Together display. Ciara was part of the colouring in competition, and she also had her work chosen for the Murray Bridge South Primary School display.
It reminded me that going to the show should mostly be about the competition entries, the animals, and being part of a rural community. It didn’t need to be about rides and show bags! We spent most of the rest of the night doing the $2 Bunyip Trail, where the kids got all sorts of free things (including potatoes, carrots and onions)!
I think we’ll be back next year!
It was nice to get some time in the studio yesterday. I don’t have any major deadlines for anything at the moment, which makes a nice change!
I do have some markets coming up which I am really looking forward to:
October 16. Victoria Square Arts Market
November 12. Penny Lane Market

So, last week I mentioned the inspiration for the colour play series over the next four weeks was Kandinsky’s “Concentric Circles on Squares” painting. This week I took a slightly different interpretation of the painting and made these necklaces:
I often find myself with a messy desk where I make beads (and where I make jewellery)! It feels like a huge effort is required to tidy up. But, when I have finally tidied up, it feels so good! Does this happen to you too?
It’s trying to be a bit more like spring around here! Leaves are returning to tress, the roses are starting to get flowers, blossom is appearing. I quite like spring, apart from when it feels more like winter!
If you know my work from a few years ago, you might know that I have been slightly obsessed with the Kandinsky painting “Colour Study. Squares with Concentric Circles.”
For a long time I made glass beads and jewelllery inspired by that painting, not that you could always tell where the inspiration had come from!
Some of you might also know that I am studying part time at the moment! Anyway, for my last art assignment, we had to do something inspired by colour. I decided to be inspired by the Kandinsky painting again! It got me thinking about glass beads, old and new, and over the next four weeks I’ll show you what I created.
Let’s start with these beads that represent the painting in glass…
The weather was so lovely last week, it was a bit hard to get motivated to work! I definitely worked a lot slower last week, and didn’t get as much done as I really needed to!
Luckily this week the weather is miserable again, and I’m back into it all. These cold, rainy days make being on the torch a pleasure, so I am getting a few extra hours in here and there, wherever I can!
Here is a recap of the silver and gold colour play series!
Week 1 – gold and silver pixie dust on clear glass beads
Week 2 – gold and silver foil and wire on recycled glass beads
Week 3 – gold and silver painted onto etched black beads
