I have had a lot of fun making this series of colour wheel inspired necklaces. What I liked about putting the beads onto the leather was that it didn’t look like a colour wheel when it was finished. It does have all of the colours, but when you layer the necklace, the result is a lot more random. You can layer the necklace at least 3-5 times, and each time you get a completely different look.

On my walk this morning…
It’s cold. It’s wet. It’s school holidays!
I am trying to get as much work done as possible. I have deadlines looming!
I am trying new things. They are not always working!
I am looking forward to being part of the Flinders Street Market this weekend. It is a special “Craftapalooza” weekend and there will be lots of cool stall holders, and some of them will be running workshops. Worth checking out if you are in Adelaide.
Giveaway!
I have a very special offer for the next market that I am doing at the Flinders Street Market….are you ready?
For every purchase over $15, you will receive a FREE bracelet making kit!! There are 12 left to choose from, and they contain all of the beads, findings and instructions needed to make a really sweet bracelet!
I will be at Flinders Street Market on Saturday and Sunday (18-19 July) from 10am until 3pm. Hope to see you there!!
Colour Wheel Jewellery
At the moment I am slightly obsessed with the colour wheel! I have always worked with a colour wheel in front of me when I am making beads, hoping that it will help me choose colours that work “well” together. And now that I am making “Colour of the Month” jewellery, I have been even more obsessed.
I love how the colour wheel works. I love how you can look at one colour on the colour wheel, and then look at the colour opposite that and see it’s complementary colour. That idea doesn’t always work for me, and I tend to look at the colours next to that complementary colour, also known as the split-complementary colours.
I love how there are general guidelines that do seem to work when putting colours together, but then I also love how you can put unexpected colours together, and that can still work too.
To celebrate the colour wheel I have dedicated the month of July to a range of necklaces based around the colour wheel. Today I am showing you the simplest and sweetest of the necklaces, the one that I have been wearing almost every day since I made it (the one my daughter and I are “sharing”). The beads are strung on silk cord, and the necklace is adjustable. I have been wearing it at it’s longest measurement, and it looks super on all of my black clothes.
If you click on any of these necklaces, it will take you to the shop where you can find out more about them.
On my walk this morning…
Thinking about the following dates:
- July 11 – I get to play shop in T’Arts today! Come and visit me if you are in Adelaide. I’m there from 10-5.
- July 18 and 19 – I will be at the Flinders Street Market “Craftapalooza” special weekend. From 10-3 each day, there will be lots of awesome things to do and see. I will be giving away my bracelet making kits (with any purchase over $15), but this is limited to only 12 kits.
- July 31 – SALA at the City Library opens officially at 6.00pm. Have you seen the SALA guide yet? So many great exhibitions at the City Library, definitely worth checking out.
- August 2 – SALA at Pepper Street opens. I won’t be at the opening, but I will have some very exciting new jewellery there! All made from recycled glass, I have been experimenting with all sorts of new ideas and liking most of what I have done!
Italian Glass Colours
I mentioned last week that I am able to make the Italian Glass range of jewellery listed in my Etsy shop in a variety of colours. I have created a page to showcase each of the colours that I can easily do. You can find it here: Italian Glass Colours.
If you need something slightly different from this, please just ask.
The Colour Brown – with Purple
This is part of a series of posts about colour. This month I am focusing on the colour brown.
Brown with Purple! Yes, an all time favourite, I love how feminine this colour combination is! I wrote about it over here too. This is the colour combination that inspired me to dedicate a whole month to the colour brown! I’ve really enjoyed looking at brown, and all of the colours that work with brown.
You can find the following necklaces in my online shop, just click the photo and it will take you to the shop.
Next month will be a surprise! If you are subscribed to my newsletter, you will find out about the Colour of the Month tomorrow, and you will have the first chance to buy the jewellery listed (at special prices)!
On my walk this morning…
Oh, how I needed a walk this morning!
I have a lot of work to do at the moment, and I am struggling to find the time to get it done. I have to work out what makes the top priority, and what can wait until later. I have to find a new work schedule, now that my youngest son has dropped his daytime sleeps, finding time to get things done is tricky! I think I might have to work at night time. I can’t get up any earlier!
How do you manage your time/priorities?
I was using an app on my iPad to manage all of my work…until it accidentally got deleted last week. It was a terrible day, and it has really made me reconsider how I manage my time. I am back to pen and paper for now, just trying to find the best system to keep track of everything. Do you have any suggestions?
Back by Popular Request…
I am re-listing some red Italian Glass jewellery. I have had several requests over the last few months for some of this style of jewellery, and it made me start thinking about what I was offering in my online shops.
So, now I have re-listed the red version of the jewellery that I have been making, but you can always change the colour if you like. So, for example, let’s say you like the red necklace on the leather…but you wanted black beads…just let me know and I’ll make it for you. I’ll even take a photo before I send it, just to be sure you are getting what you want.
Coming soon: I will put together a special page of colour options that are really easy for me to do, but again, if you are after a specific colour that is not there, just let me know, and I’ll see what I can do!
The Colour Brown plus Turquoise
I ended up liking every colour that I put with brown this month, which is really amazing, because I don’t really like the colour brown! When I put it with turquoise it ended up looking very retro and funky, and I nodded my head approvingly! The turquoise really pops on the brown. And I especially love it on this dark blue/grey dress.
