Walk on the Wild Side

I have been getting some new work ready for a Fringe exhibition at Prospect Gallery.  It’s a group exhibition, and most of the artists at T’Arts are involved.  The theme is “Walk on the Wild Side”, and I have made some beads and jewellery that are quite different from what I would normally make.  It’s been fun to think and make outside of my comfort zone!

On my walk this morning…

We’ve had some really hot weather this summer, but in between we’ve also had some perfect sunny days.  It has been hard to work when everyone else in the house is on holidays!  I have really had to push myself to get on the torch.

I am making some new work for a Fringe exhibition at Prospect Gallery.  I have almost finished the first necklace.  I showed the beads I made to some friends on the weekend, and they were very enthusiastic.  I am hoping the finished piece works out.  It will be quite different from what I have made in the past, and should suit the theme of the exhibition “Walk on the Wild Side.”

2015

Here are the photographs that were most liked on Instagram last year!

They actually represent some really great aspects of 2015: a trip to Melbourne with my mum, lots of lovely walks, moving to a new home, new jewellery and several galleries selling my work really beautifully!  Yes, it was a great year.

On my walk this morning…

I’ve been thinking about 2015 a lot.  The good, and the not so good things.  It’s been helping me to think about what I want to do in 2016.

2015 was actually a pretty good year, I can’t complain.  We moved to Murray Bridge, and that has worked out so well for us that we ended up buying a house here.

I was most pleased with the following things from 2015:

  • Window Artist of the Month for January/February at Murray Bridge Regional Art Gallery
  • “Resonate” group exhibition at Gallery M
  • Finalist in Reart International Upcycle exhibition
  • SALA solo exhibition at City Library – “Fleur Verre”
  • SALA group exhibition at Pepper Street Art Centre – “Renew”
  • Nominated for a Brand SA Regional award
  • Kirra Galleries “Flame On” exhibition
  • Work selected for Canberra Glassworks gallery shop
  • Finalist in the Mansfield Art Glass Contemporary Jewellery Exhibition

It’s lovely to reflect on what has happened this year.  Now I can’t wait to start dreaming about the future!

Nearly sale time…

Around this time every year I have a look at the jewellery that I have on hand: some of the jewellery returned from consignment shops after they have been refreshed, some from exhibitions, and some experiments.  I spend a bit of time thinking about whether to take them to markets or whether to put them in different galleries, or whether to sell them online.  It’s kind of tough.  Most of the time I just think “I’ll put them on the Sale Table at T’Arts, and whatever doesn’t sell, then I’ll think about what to do with that.”

So, this year there is, for some unknown reason, an abundance of earrings!  Not so many necklaces.  Not sure if I’ll find any bracelets yet.  I haven’t quite finished getting things ready, but here is a sneak peak of the earrings that I have got ready:

Sale Table 2015

The sale starts on Saturday, December 26 at 10.00am.  T’Arts is located in Gays Arcade, off the Rundle Mall in Adelaide.  The sale will finish after about 2 weeks.
