Getting ready for “Be-Gin Again” exhibition

recycled glass earrings

I am right in the middle of getting ready for my exhibition at Local Images. The design process often takes the longest (it certainly has this time). After I’ve gone through that I have loads of beads to make, and then the easy part is making the jewellery!

I have been trying very hard to make sure the pieces in this exhibition are a little bit different from my usual style of jewellery, and I think it’s starting to come together nicely (fingers crossed).

This pair of earrings was made from Hendricks Gin and Fever-Tree tonic bottles, and the copper tube was enamelled with red/purple enamels.

These earrings actually look great with a range of different coloured clothing. They are not too red, nor are they too black and white in colour. The mix of colours means they will work with black and white, red, pink, purple, and grey clothes. Hmm, that basically sums up my winter wardrobe.

New designs…

recycled glass bracelet

First of all….it’s day 122 of my yearly challenge! That means it’s about 1/3 of the way through the year! Wow. It has gone very quickly, and has been one of the best parts of my day. I love the daily push to make something new. I admit there are some days when I am staring at my beads for a long time, wondering what on earth I could possibly make, and there have been days when I have had a bit of an idea, and things came together really quickly. Mostly, it’s time well spent.

So today I have taken the silver links and turned them into a bracelet. Today was another one of those days where I couldn’t work out what to make, and after hesitating for a while I finally decided to try this new bracelet idea. I’m kind of glad I did, because it looks really pretty, and it sits really nicely on the wrist too.

Beads are from a Bombay Sapphire Gin bottle.

Gin and Tonic pendant

This morning I was thinking about what I was going to make today as part of my “Year of Recycled Glass Jewellery“, and I kind of wanted to use more of the rings that I had made and textured, but I thought I might have already made enough earrings (at this stage). Then I had a little brain wave and thought – “I could use the rings for pendants.”

Yay! I had been using pre-made findings for the pendants, and I was so excited to think that I could now make my own pendant rings! It was quite exciting (yes, the little things).

It also made me wish I had gotten my silver jewellery making tools and equipment out a long time ago….but maybe now is the right time? Well, I can’t undo the past, but I can go forward making new things, and that feels pretty good at the moment.

Some lovely feedback…

I love making special pieces of jewellery for people. Robyn loved the pink depression glass jewellery that I had posted online previously, and she got in touch with me because she wanted a necklace, bracelet and earrings that would work as a set. She had an idea of what she wanted, so I went and made some beads to test out her idea. And together we created this lovely set!

It’s always nice to get feedback from a customer…

Thanks Robyn for the opportunity to make some beautiful jewellery for you.

More new favourite earrings…

recycled glass earrings

OK, so I am spending some time with silver this week, trying to get some new work made for my exhibition in Penola. Yesterday I kept the silver work simple, and used one ring for the earrings. Today I thought I would delve a little deeper and used two rings for the earrings! They tick a lot of boxes for me: light, long, dangly, with a pop of colour. The bead is made from a Tanqueray Gin bottle.

Wonder what I’ll make tomorrow?

New favourite earrings…

When I lived in Mount Gambier, a few years ago now, I had a big studio room where I was able to do all sorts of different work, including silver jewellery work. I dabbled in it a little bit, for a little while, and I always thought it would be nice to do more of it. Then we moved, and moved again…

It has been a few years, but I finally got my silver jewellery making tools out today and made some silver rings that I textured, and then added a small Bombay Sapphire Gin bottle bead to finish it off.

I am planning to do some more work like this for my exhibition in Penola. It opens at Local Images on May 18.

And just in case you were wondering, the silver components are made from recycled sterling silver!

Mother Earth

recycled glass jewellery

For the Mother’s Day window at T’Arts this year the theme of “Mother Earth” was decided. For me that suits perfectly my recycled glass collection of jewellery! I just had to narrow down a colour way, and I managed to do that during my daily recycled glass challenge!  It ended up being purple and green.

I was recently given some purple glasses to use, and I loved how they melted, and added a lot of really interesting colours to the collection.

Purple and green pendant – take 2

recycled glass pendant necklace

I’m trying to get all sorts of jewellery ready for the T’Arts Mothers Day window display. I have made lots of beads with purples and greens (all from recycled glass objects). Today I made another pendant in purples and greens, but a bit different from yesterday.

I love adding the enamelled copper tube and the Swarovski crystals to these pendants, I think it gives them a real pop.

Pink/purple pendant

My daily “recycled glass jewellery” challenge stops for nothing! I’m actually away from home at the moment. I am staying with my parents. The kids and I are having a short holiday here. I have brought all of my beads over, and I have just made some time to make my recycled glass jewellery piece for the day. Luckily I have had an idea in my mind for a while now to try a different type of pendant! It came together quite easily in the end (yay for having all sorts of beads to choose from).

And thanks to mum and dad’s garden for a lovely footpath to take a photo on!
