April Colour Play #1 – Red

long red bead necklace

As you may know I have been making all sorts of new necklaces as part of my recycled glass jewellery challenge. At one stage I got my seed beads out and made a few necklaces. Check them out here, here and especially here!

They all received lots of positive feedback, so I thought I would go ahead and make some more as part of April Colour Play. This time I have used Italian glass to make the feature beads in the necklaces and earrings.

This week I’m showing the red version of the necklace, and the square hoop earrings that I made to wear with it.

All about red #4

red glass bracelet

A recap of Colour Play this month: Week 1, Week 2, Week 3.

This final week I have made an asymmetrical red bracelet, and a pair of earrings that will work perfectly with that bracelet. For those days when you don’t really need/want to wear a necklace, but would like something to adorn yourself!

This bracelet sits so nicely on the wrist, the longer beads help to keep it anchored, and the sparkly beads, well, they really sparkle! I have made this bracelet approx 20cm long, but it can be altered if you need.

These earrings are perfect for everyday wear. They are comfortable, with a splash of red. They are approx 4.5cm long.

All about red #3

red jewellery

Last week it was all about the seed beads. Oh, and the beautiful red glass beads in between all of those lovely seed beads!

This week, it’s all about the drip beads!

The third necklace features another favourite bead of mine – the drip bead! I make this bead by using the beauty of gravity! Again, this necklace looks really great on, it’s simple, but stunning (thanks to the colour)! I have made this one approx 54cm long, but that can easily be changed if you prefer.

These earrings are quite stunning! They feature two red drip beads, and they are a great length too – approx 5cm long. A really comfortable style to wear. I have kept one of the prototype earrings for myself (in a different colour)!

All about red #1

red glass jewellery

This month colour play is all about the colour RED!

During 2012 I created two pretty cool things. The first was an exhibition all about red glass beads. Titled “10,000 red glass beads” it was a labour of love, and a time that I look back on really fondly. Yes, I really did make 10,000 red glass beads for that exhibition.

At the same time I was pregnant with my second child, and he was born just a couple of weeks after the exhibition opened! Well, that little person is now 5 years old, and he started school this week!

All of that nostalgia led me to make some new red pieces for my colour play series! I have always loved the colour red, and I love to make red jewellery. This month I have some really exciting pieces available.

I have made them all one off pieces. However if an items is sold, and you would like something similar, please feel free to contact me, and I’ll see what I can do.

The first necklace features my favourite red flower beads. I have used red flower beads in all sorts of ways, but I haven’t made a necklace quite like this before. I was thrilled that such a simple style could still look amazing on!

These earrings are quite stunning on! The flower bead sits under the ear lobe, and the silver at the back sits to about 4cm.

Stop! Red!

This is the first in a series of posts about colour.  This month I am focusing on the colour red.

Red

I love the colour red.  It is without a doubt my most favourite colour.  I always wear a little splash of red somewhere: shoes, earrings, a top.  I haven’t quite worked up the courage to wear red pants yet, but maybe one day.  And I haven’t found the right red lipstick yet either.  Any suggestions?

There’s something about red that says “I feel good”.  You don’t need a lot of it.  A red necklace when your outfit is black and white looks stunning.

At the moment my favourite piece of jewellery to wear is a long pair of red earrings.

Long Red Earrings, just a splash of colour to make your day!

Red has the ability to work with a lot of different coloured clothes.  Black.  White.  Purple.  Blue.  Red has the power to pop!
