More new favourite earrings…

recycled glass earrings

OK, so I am spending some time with silver this week, trying to get some new work made for my exhibition in Penola. Yesterday I kept the silver work simple, and used one ring for the earrings. Today I thought I would delve a little deeper and used two rings for the earrings! They tick a lot of boxes for me: light, long, dangly, with a pop of colour. The bead is made from a Tanqueray Gin bottle.

Wonder what I’ll make tomorrow?

New favourite earrings…

recycled glass earrings

When I lived in Mount Gambier, a few years ago now, I had a big studio room where I was able to do all sorts of different work, including silver jewellery work. I dabbled in it a little bit, for a little while, and I always thought it would be nice to do more of it. Then we moved, and moved again…

It has been a few years, but I finally got my silver jewellery making tools out today and made some silver rings that I textured, and then added a small Bombay Sapphire Gin bottle bead to finish it off.

I am planning to do some more work like this for my exhibition in Penola. It opens at Local Images on May 18.

And just in case you were wondering, the silver components are made from recycled sterling silver!

Mother Earth

recycled glass jewellery

For the Mother’s Day window at T’Arts this year the theme of “Mother Earth” was decided. For me that suits perfectly my recycled glass collection of jewellery! I just had to narrow down a colour way, and I managed to do that during my daily recycled glass challenge!  It ended up being purple and green.

I was recently given some purple glasses to use, and I loved how they melted, and added a lot of really interesting colours to the collection.

Purple and green pendant – take 2

recycled glass pendant necklace

I’m trying to get all sorts of jewellery ready for the T’Arts Mothers Day window display. I have made lots of beads with purples and greens (all from recycled glass objects). Today I made another pendant in purples and greens, but a bit different from yesterday.

I love adding the enamelled copper tube and the Swarovski crystals to these pendants, I think it gives them a real pop.

Pink/purple pendant

My daily “recycled glass jewellery” challenge stops for nothing! I’m actually away from home at the moment. I am staying with my parents. The kids and I are having a short holiday here. I have brought all of my beads over, and I have just made some time to make my recycled glass jewellery piece for the day. Luckily I have had an idea in my mind for a while now to try a different type of pendant! It came together quite easily in the end (yay for having all sorts of beads to choose from).

And thanks to mum and dad’s garden for a lovely footpath to take a photo on!

Dawn Service

recycled glass bead bracelet

I was up early today for the Dawn Service in Yorketown. I try to get to a Dawn Service each year, and I was happy to be able to attend the one in Yorketown this morning. I used to attend this one when I was a Girl Guide!  I thought the ceremony was really lovely. The morning was just getting light as the service started, and there were lots of people there.

I wasn’t sure how easy it would be to fit in making jewellery today! But I snuck into my room for a while and put some recycled glass beads together, choosing from the browns, greens and purples that I had made. I am loving this combination of colours!

April colour play #3 – Blue

long blue glass bead necklace

I hope you are enjoying the April Colour Play series of jewellery. In case you have missed any, the red version of the jewellery is here, and the purple version of the jewellery is here.

This week it’s time to show you the blue version of the necklace and earrings. I particularly like all of the shades of blue in this necklace, it would look awesome with so many different dresses or tops.

Purple and green recycled glass necklace

I tend to work with a lot of green, brown and blue glass – think wine, beer and spirit bottles. Luckily I really like those colours, so it’s easy to work with them. And I like the message they are promoting, which is all about recycling!

But the other day a friend of mine gave me some purple glasses that were no longer useful, and I have to say it has been quite a treat working with them. It has added a real richness to the work, really feminine in a way too. It’s tricky to use glasses, but it’s worth the effort.

Purple and Green earrings

recycled glass earrings

I’m working on some new jewellery for the T’Arts Mother’s Day window.

The theme is Mother Earth, and I’ve used all sorts of purple and green glass objects to create a mix of new beads.

This is the first pair of earrings that I have made for the display.  I love putting purple and green together, it’s such a strong colour combination, but still really pretty.
