Alice Potter Workshop – THE Brooch!
Ta da! This is the brooch that I made at the Alice Potter workshop! Admittedly, there were a few modifications after my daughter wore it to school today and lost some of the pieces, but it’s pretty close to being the same. I think I’ll be able to wear it with just about all of the clothes in my wardrobe! Funny how you gravitate to what you like.
I thoroughly enjoyed the workshop, and I look forward to seeing what other workshops the Jam Factory have to offer.
Alice Potter Workshop
I went to a very inspiring workshop at the Jam Factory last night. It was “Making Wearable Art” and it was led by the fabulous jeweller Alice Potter.
We were given a little goody bag filled with all sorts of interesting bits and pieces. Alice showed us examples of her amazing jewellery, gave us a few tips and suggestions, and then let us go crazy for the next couple of hours making whatever we wanted. I had a lot of fun just messing around with all of the things we had been given, but I thought I should try to make at least one thing.
I would show you a photograph of that piece, except my daughter took a bit of a shine to it this morning and wore it to school for Harmony Day! I will photograph it and show you tomorrow.
I felt so grateful that I was able to go to the workshop. It really opened me up to new ideas and new way of doing things. I had a lot of fun making the brooch, and I am looking forward to wearing it (if I get it back)! I realised that brooches have been something I have always wanted to make, but have never quite worked out how to do them with glass + beads. It’s not impossible, but it is tricky. The workshop has made me start thinking about making brooches again. Wonder where that will end up? Stay tuned!
Expiring Soon
I have a lot of jewellery in the sale section of my Etsy shop that is about to expire. If you were tempted to buy an item at a discounted price, now would be a great time to do that!
A Boutique Life Design Market
It was my first time attending/being part of A Boutique Life Design Market yesterday, and one of the questions we were asked on our feedback forms was “Did we meet our business objectives?”
At first I thought only in terms of $$. I did make some sales on the day, but I had thought it might be possible to make more. It was a bit patchy, but still worth getting out of bed for!
Then I thought:
- My product was exposed to a thousand new people (I think)
- I handed out lots of business cards
- I met lots of nice stallholders
- I reconnected with a couple of old customers
- I realised my display wasn’t working so I changed it around at lunch time (when things got quiet)
- I learned more about doing markets!
Yes, I think I met my business objectives for being part of the market. I was really happy to be part of it, and hope to be part of it again at some stage.

New jewellery tags
These were the “old” tags I used for my jewellery. They worked well. I used Moo to create the tags, and the quality was perfect for that job.
When I went to make them again, they had taken this particular way of making mini text cards out of their range! I couldn’t even re-order the cards, everything had changed.
Oh no, what to do?
It took me a long time to come up with this new style of Mini Card (see below). On one side is a pattern, and next time I think I will use my own design. On the other side is my business name, people can use that to search for me on the internet.
What I really like about the new design is that I’ll use the red cards for my Italian glass range, and the blue cards for my Recycled glass range. I think they’ll work well.
On my walk this morning….
- I am looking forward to doing A Boutique Design Life Market on Sunday.
- I am pleased that the exhibition at Gallery M went well in the end. I wasn’t sure if I would get all of that work finished.
- I am crocheting a blanket! I’ll show you when it gets a bit more interesting.
- I am loving the new morning walk I have found: down to the river, back through some wetlands, and then down a road where the dog can go off leash. Perfect.
- I am applying for all sorts of different markets in and around Adelaide. Stay tuned for details.
- I am happy to be living in Murray Bridge. It ticks so many boxes: close to family, close to Adelaide, very easy living.
- I am thrilled with the new swing tags for my jewellery. I’ll show you soon.
- I am feeling a bit disorganised. Time to start a list!
- I am not sure what to start reading. I put several books on hold at the library and they have all come in at the same time! Still Alice? Kill Order? Useful?
- I am content.
