Pretty…

Recycled glass earrings | beads made from a wine bottle

I just wanted to tweak my square/diamond shaped earrings a little bit, so I made these as a more “square” pair of earrings. Of course, square is not the correct mathematical term, rectangular is the correct term.

I also love that these beads were made from South Australian wine bottles (Bethany Wines from the Barossa Valley), and the delicious colours resemble purple grapes amongst the brown soil. Yum!

Time to play…

Recycled glass necklace | blue and brown beads made from various recycled glass objects

Today I had a bit of extra time to sit with my beads and try to work on something “new”. I wasn’t sure what it was going to be. A new pair of earrings? A new bracelet? Maybe a new necklace?

I had some brown and some blue beads already sitting on my desk, so I started putting them together.  Then I found some more blue beads, and added some more brown beads, and what started out as a couple of beads sitting next to each other that I kind of liked the look of, soon turned into a really pretty necklace.

I really like how beautifully all of these different colours and shapes work together.

There are beads from all sorts of recycled glass objects here: Banrock Station Wine bottle, Hendricks Gin bottle, Bombay Sapphire Gin bottle, Skyy Vodka bottle, Coopers Ale bottle!

Finding a moment…

Recycled glass bead necklace | beads made from wine and gin bottles in earthy tones

It has been a fairly busy day here. My son turned 6 today! He has had a little party with his buddies, and they have all just gone home, so I have said it was time for some “quiet time” for everyone. I ducked in to my studio to play with some beads, and found myself drawn to these lovely earthy colours.

Ode to spring

Recycled glass bead bracelet | beads made from various recycled glass objects in my ode to spring!

It’s no secret that I dislike winter. It’s just not for me. Give me sunshine and warmth any day. I made this bracelet as a tribute to spring. I was checking out my garden this morning, and it’s looking really pretty with new blossoms and leaves starting to make their way onto the trees. The wind makes it feel like spring is almost here (although it does mean it’s super cold too).  And the patches of sunshine every now and then are lovely. But seriously….I’m ready for spring…NOW!

Red and Green?

Handmade recycled glass bead earrings | red beads made from a tonic water bottle, green beads from wine bottles.

I am never really sure if you should put red and green together. I think if it’s a particular shade of red and a particular shade of green it is really just saying “Merry Christmas”!

So, I never really think to put them together. Except today I had these red beads lying next to a bunch of green wine bottle beads, and I stopped and thought….why not give it a go? I tried a few different colours, before settling on the two green beads in these earrings.

I think they work…

Finding 5 minutes

Recycled glass bead necklace | beads made from wine and gin bottles

I’m not entirely sure where today’s necklace is going, it was just an idea that popped in to my head and I thought I would give it a go! Some days it is so tempting to not make something, to put this daily making project on hold and work on other things on my to do list. But it’s days like today, when my to-do list is getting longer by the minute, and I don’t really know where I am going to find the time to get everything done as it is, they are the days when it makes the most sense to sit down and make something. I knew this daily challenge was going to be difficult at times, and I know I have missed the window for photographing objects at times (it has been dark when I finally got around to making something). But every day I spend making something, taking the time to sit with my beads and my thoughts and make something…I just never know what I am going to get, and I’m always glad I made the time!

Change one thing

Recycled glass bead bracelet | beads made from wine and gin bottles

I am slightly obsessed by the idea of “changing one thing” at the moment. In this latest series of leaf bracelets I have changed one thing about each design and created a completely different bracelet.

In the world we live in we are currently bombarded with ideas for change. Eat this, do this, buy these products – blah, blah, blah. You could never take it all on board. But you can change one little thing and see what happens.

Like here, we have started growing some of our own vegetables and fruit. It has been lovely every time we have cooked something from our garden. Makes us feel good, and it tastes good too!

What changes have you made lately? I would love to hear about them.
